To meet increasing customer demand, we're looking for an exceptional individual to help extend and enhance our embedded digital media player.
Embedded Software Developer
Overview
Reporting to the Team Lead, Player Development, your responsibilities will include designing, developing and customizing our Linux-based Media Player. This role requires an extensive knowledge of embedded systems design including knowledge of software design, software packaging and low-level customization at the device driver level. Strong Linux-based software development skills, including the use of configuration management tools, package management, high-level languages (C, Java) and scripting (Python, bash) is required. Experience with real-time systems is a plus. Familiarity with digital media playback is strongly desired.
In addition to software development, you will provide technical guidance and support in selecting appropriate technology for use, assisting other groups in their hardware setup and configuration and providing recommendations to senior managers in regards to appropriate technology directions.
A motivated self starter with organizational and time management skills, you will ensure that you consistently deliver on time, on budget and with a high degree of quality. You will be expected to respond rapidly to a dynamic and ever changing landscape of needs, while always looking to the future to ensure that what is built will have longevity and is applicable to the business.
Technical Skills
· Knowledge of scripting language like Bash, Perl or Python
· Programming experience (C and Java preferred) including experience with Gtk and Open GL
· Experienced using, configuring and installing various forms of Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, Red Hat etc.) including configuring, compiling and installing device drivers and compiling kernels
· Experience in installing and configuring graphics cards and on board controllers from various manufacturers (ATI, nVidia, Matrox etc) to work in Linux
· Experienced in hardware devices and PC based device drivers on Linux and optionally a Windows environment
· Familiarity with Audio Video (home entertainment) technology, including Component, HDMI, DVI, etc.
· Familiar with PC based display technologies, including hardware configuration, setup and installation, e.g. different screen resolutions and formats (720p, 1080p, 1024x768 etc.)
· Familiar with GNU tools
· Familiar with RPM or other packaging systems
· Familiar with Xorg
· Understanding of different types of media and videos codecs would be an asset
· Familiar with source control systems like CVS or SVN would be an asset

Education:
University degree in IT/Computer Science or related discipline
Mandatory Qualifications:
* 1-3 years of experience in database development, maintenance, & support
* MUST HAVE ADVANCE LEVEL MS ACCESS SKILL
* MUST be able to develop & troubleshoot database application using Ms Access
* Strong competency with SQL Server
* Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving skills & detail oriented
* Strong knowledge of System Programming
* Knowledge of Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transportation Management System (TMS), & SAP would be an asset
* Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization with minimum supervision
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the Logistics System and Support Lead in the identified goals and objective in order to achieve further improvement of multiple Retail Support Centre (RSC) operations
- Development, maintenance, and support of Logistics Operations Database (Access DBs) to support RSC activities
- The owner of Ontario RSC Database Applications
- Involved in Logistics Enterprise Applications (SAP, EXE/Witron, Fleet management, etc), also responsible for maintenance and system upgrade
- Become a super user for the Logistics Enterprise Applications and provide technical support to the Ontario RSCs
- Prepare procedure guides, user guides, and other soft and hard documentation
- Prepare Reports and KPIs for Logistics team as required
- Analyze: data, operational practices, process mapping, develop tools, benchmark / best practices research.

The Job:

High-level software skills are mandatory – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat, etc. The day-to-day tasks might include finished-art assembly, production and mechanical artwork, text corrections, illustration, photo re-touching, assembly of mockups and printed samples – some of which will require occasional evening and weekend work in order to make deadlines. The winning candidate might occasionally also be required to work as part of a creative team with Art Director, Designer and/or Copywriter and will work under the reporting supervision of the Creative Director and the daily supervision of the Traffic Manager.
